Cadillac CT6 to get Plug-in hybrid tech

Cadillac is talking up its coming range topping vehicle called the CT6. The car will have plug-in hybrid technology to make the vehicle more fuel-efficient. Cadillac says that the PHEV system used in the car is expected to get fuel economy more than double that of a conventional engine.

The hybrid system under the hood of the car will give the CT6 a total of 335hp and 432 lb-ft of torque. The Plug-in hybrid system fitted in the car will provide all-electric driving for most daily commutes and can bled power from the engine and battery at high speeds even when the battery has power.

The battery used in the system is an 18.4kWh lithium-ion unit between the rear seat and the trunk of the car. The battery uses 192 prismatic pouch cells. Charging can be done via a 120V or 240V charger. Cadillac isn't offering electric driving range at this time and says that information will be provided closer to the US launch of the car.

The drive train will consist of a two-motor EVT system with three planetary gears mated to a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine. The gas engine will use spark-ignited direct injection and variable valve technology. Regenerative braking will help charge the battery while on the go for more electric range.
