ASUS have quietly announced one of the first netbooks to use Intel’s upcoming Atom N280 processors, the Eee PC 1004DN.  Spotted in among the CES models last week, the 1004DN not only has a 1.66GHz N280 CPU and the HD-capable GN40 chipset, but an integrated optical drive and ExpressCard slot.

The display is a 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 panel, while RAM is 1GB and storage 160GB with a standard HDD.  Connectivity includes three USB 2.0 ports, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, VGA output and an 8-in-1 card reader.  The 1004DN measures 10.4 x 7.1 x 1 inches, and has a new keyboard design.

OS is Windows XP Home, and there’s a 1.3-megapixel webcam above the screen.  Unfortunately it seems that the Eee PC 1004DN is not intended for the US, only China and Europe.  No pricing has been suggested.
