Apple To Launch TV Displays This Fall?

Apple may soon be getting into the TV business, if an insider source is correct. And we don't mean a revamp of the unfortunate Apple TV set-top box. We mean a full-blown Apple TV display. According to DailyTech, a former Apple executive revealed to them that the project has been in the works and could be unveiled as early as this fall.

The Apple TV hasn't been one of Apple's shining moments, but neither has MobileMe and Apple is giving syncing a second shot with the iCloud. Perhaps a second stab at the TV market will have better results? The former Apple exec claims that Apple will be working with OEMs to produce displays rebranded as Apple television sets. He says, "You'll go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It's perfect."

The new Apple television set will essentially be like a large display with a built-in Apple TV. Hence, it will most likely be powered by iOS and bring the ecosystem of apps to the TV as well. In light of Google's announcement that Google TV will be getting Android 3.1 Honeycomb and Android Market along with its recent purchase of Sage TV, it's possible that Apple will take on TV displays as a preemptive move.
