Mojang to close down Scrolls server July 2016

Mojang to close down Scrolls server July 2016

It has only been half a year since Minecraft creators Mojang unleashed its second big game to the public, and now it is announcing that it will no longer be actively developing the collectible card battle game Scrolls. To some extent, it isn't that surprising given how Scrolls paled in comparison to Mojang's real cash cow, Minecraft. But the announcement does call into question the profitability of such card games in general and perhaps even sparks some speculation regarding Mojang's future direction inside its new Microsoft mothership.

Mojang trolls Minecraft player with crude handle

Mojang trolls Minecraft player with crude handle

When you choose a username in certain places — like Minecraft, for example — it’s expected that you abide by certain decency rules. No crude or offensive names and such. Humans are a creative lot though and so word filters can only do so much; many times offensive and crude names squeak through and enter into the wild, living on until spotted or tattled on. Such was the case with one Minecraft player who spent years playing with a particular crude name before getting hit with a light-hearted jab from Mojang itself.

Hearthstone Grand Tournament expansion brings 132 new cards

Unlike Mojang's Scrolls, it seems that Blizzard's Hearthsthone online card battle game is doing quite well. At least well enough to warrant a major expansion to this sub-franchise of the Warcraft line. Like you would expect from a card game expansion, The Grand Tournament dumps a whole lot of new cards for players, just a bit over 130 in total. Of course there are new features to be had as well, including a new "Inspire" mechanic and new ranking rewards at the end of each month.
