ZTE Grand S pricing and availability revealed, pre-orders start October 5

ZTE has announced the pricing and availability of its ZTE Grand S handset, which recently received the 2013 iF International Design Award. Starting this coming Saturday, the handset will go up for pre-order on October 5 for $399.99 through various online retailers, with a shipping date not yet mentioned. With the Grand S comes specs similar to the nubia 5, which was unveiled earlier this evening.

With the ZTE Grand S comes a 5-inch Full HD display covered with scratch-resistant glass. Under the hood, users will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz processor, the same available in the ZTE nubia 5. Around back, the handset has a 13-megapixel camera with auto focus and a flash, while on the front there's a 2-megapixel camera for video chats and such.

There's 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space — same as the nubia — as well as a 1780mAh battery, which is a bit smaller in capacity than the nubia 5's battery. The smartphone itself has a uni-body design, while ZTE says it also utilizes "several" of the handset maker's MiFavor applications. Oddly enough, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean rather than version 4.2.

ZTE USA's CEO and Chairman Lixin Cheng said: "For many consumers, technology and design are inseparable. Today's higher-end smartphones must be both physically and emotionally compelling, and the Grand S offers this winning combination of form and function. We've been looking forward to bringing the Grand S to the U.S. since we announced the device at CES. Our goal is to launch more products like this in the future."
