YouTube Red's next original series is a Tinder-based comedy called 'Swipe Right'

YouTube Red's original programs have yet to catch up to those from Netflix and Amazon in terms of quality and viewership, but the premium service continues to expand its catalog of content. The company has now greenlit a scripted comedy series based on the dating app Tinder, titled — wait for it — Swipe Right, and focuses on a woman who decides to go on a date with all 252 of her Tinder matches.Swipe Right will star Carly Craig (of American Housewife and Role Models) as a woman who's unhappy at still being single at age 35 and makes the jump into the dating app. She also has a younger sister who's become bored with her marriage, and a widowed mother who decides to try online dating as well.

Craig wrote the series, which is based in part on her real life, as well as co-created it with Daniel Reisinger. The pair will also be service as co-showrunner (with Robin Schiff) and director, respectively. The series will premiere on YouTube Red sometime in 2018 with eight episodes.

While the show's initial premise will surely appeal to the younger Tinder-using generations, the multi-generational family comedy setup could also help it draw in a wider audience, which is what YouTube Red really needs at this point.
