YouTube Community lets content makers interact with fans in new ways

Since YouTube launched the way content creators interacted with their fans was by posting videos to the sharing platform for the fans to watch. YouTube is now expanding the capabilities of interaction with fans on YouTube channels with YouTube Community. Community is accessed via the Community tab on your YouTube channel.

The idea is to give creators a new and simpler why to interact with fans between uploads of videos on their channel. The Community section allows content makers to share text, live videos, images, animated gifs, and other types of content. The aim is to allow interaction with fans between major uploads to keep fans coming back even if they have seen all your videos already.

Viewers of your channel will be able to see posts made on the Community tab on phones and can opt into notifications when you post something on your channel. The new Community feature was created with help for some of the most popular YouTubers out there including John & Hank Green, AsapSCIENCE, The Game Theorists, Karmin, The Key of Awesome, The Kloons, Lilly Singh, Peter Hollens, Rosianna Halse Rojas, Sam Tsui, Threadbanger, and VSauce3.

YouTube also promises to continue tweaking the platform with feedback from users and content creators as time goes by. New features and functions will be added over time. It's unclear if content creators have to be invited to participate in the Community program or if it will eventually roll out to everyone. YouTube notes that it will be including more creators in the months ahead, so it seems an invite is required for now. YouTube has been rolling out new features and services to try to expand beyond videos, it unveiled the Backstage feature late last month.
