You can also make a transparent LG G6 if you're brave enough

Is clear going to be the new black? While it's probably never going to be offered by OEMs officially, the idea has appealed so much to JerryRigEverything that he's doing it again. After divesting the Galaxy S8 of its colors, he is now giving its closest rival, the LG G6, the exact same treatment. Of course, if you do attempt this at home, be prepared to end up with a non-functioning phone. If you, or the LG G6 rather, manages to survive unscathed, then you're rewarded with a nifty-looking piece of tech.

Not everyone likes to see the innards of things, even smartphones, so the transparent look never really caught on. But with the return of glass backs, JerryRigEverything's Zack Nelson got the bright idea of getting a totally clear smartphone. And when you're already numb to the idea of sacrificing numerous smartphones to the altars of science and YouTube, doing this is a piece of cake.

Just like with the Galaxy S8, "de-coating" the LG G6 starts with heating things up to remove the glass back cover. Once removed, peeling off the colored film, which was described to feel more like aluminum foil, was easy. There were a few things that were easier on the LG G6 and a few things that were harder.

Greater care was needed in removing and putting back the fingerprint sensor because it doubled as a power button. If you managed to rip out the copper strip connector, you're out of luck. On the other hand, the LG G6 worked and charged perfectly fine without the wireless charging coil, unlike the Galaxy S8, which Nelson later discovered to have had problems.

That said, modding smartphones like this shouldn't be undertaken by common users, or anyone at all. There's always a chance that something could go awry, even with skilled hands like Nelson. But considering replaceable back covers have gone the way of the dinosaur, this is the only way you'll eve have a totally clear LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8.
