Yahoo! transitions to Bing search

Yahoo!'s deal with Microsoft has reached its first major milestone, with the company turning off its own search engine technology this week and shifting all North American web, image and video queries over to the Bing engine.  Other geographical sites (and languages – right now only the English searches have transitioned) will follow "in the weeks and months ahead" according to Microsoft.

Also left unchanged so far is Yahoo!'s BOSS (Build your Own Search Service) system, the transition of which the company promises to detail in the next few weeks including how users can monetize searches.  Meanwhile the maps APIs and services are being pared down – as well as paving the way for greater involvement with Nokia – and the SearchMonkey service axed as of October 1st.
