Xperia XA2 Plus mid-range phone packs Sony Hi-Res audio

Sony has taken the wraps off its new Xperia XA2 Plus, a smartphone packing the company's Hi-Res audio technology, as well as an 18:9 display, 4K camera, and more. The company hawks the XA2 Plus as an "entertainment-focused" handset, one that falls within the mid-tier Xperia range. This marks the first time Sony has offered Hi-Res audio in its "super mid-range" Xperia lineup, the company says.

The Sony Xperia XA2 Plus features a Full HD+ 6-inch 18:9 display housed in an anodized aluminum frame with a diamond-cut finish. The handset has a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, Gorilla Glass 5 protecting the display, and a mini-display mode for toggling between larger and smaller on-screen interfaces.

Sony has focused on the camera and audio with this model, offering high-resolution audio support for audiophiles, as well as a 23-megapixel rear camera with an Exmor RS sensor and ISO 12800 rating. This makes it suitable for low-light photography, according to Sony, which enables slow-motion recording at 120fps, as well as 4K recording at regular speeds.

The front-facing 8-megapixel camera has a 120-degree wide-angle lens that Sony made for selfies specifically. The wide-angle lens enables multiple people to be captured in the same selfie, and there are various image modes like "Portrait Selfie." The software also offers various Beauty features and a bokeh option.

All of this is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform and a 3580mAh battery. Quick Charge 3.0 is packed in for rapid charging, plus there's power management tools Smart Stamina, Qnovo Adaptive Charging, and Battery Care.

The handset runs Android Oreo and is available with a leather-esque Style Cover Stand in silver and black colors. Sony will launch the phone in August but a price hasn't been revealed yet.
