Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is officially sold out (because of course it is)

If you had your heart set on an Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition but haven't managed to pre-order one yet, we've got some bad news for you: you are officially out of luck. Microsoft announced today that the limited-edition console is already sold out, and it doesn't sound like it's planning to make any more. Hopefully you managed to get one, otherwise you might be at the mercy of scalpers if you still want to buy one.

Microsoft revealed today that over the past five days, the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition has become the fastest selling Xbox pre-order in history. That has some interesting implications for the future – considering Xbox One sales have been lagging behind those of the PS4 for the entire console generation, it'll be interesting to see if the Xbox One X helps Microsoft catch up in any significant way.

In any case, Larry Hryb commented on Twitter that the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is "officially sold out," suggesting that Microsoft won't be making any more. Indeed, it even seems like Xbox One X pre-orders in general will be unavailable in the short-term future. Today's announcement over on Xbox.com says that Microsoft will be announcing the next wave of Xbox One X pre-orders next month.

After the Xbox One X was revealed, there was some concern that $500 might be too high a price point for a new console, but clearly that isn't the case. The Xbox One S, by comparison, is only $300 (and frequently goes on sale) while the PS4 Pro – the Xbox One X's closest competitor in terms of power – is only $400. Of course, the PS4 Pro is also less powerful than the Xbox One X, so that's something to consider in addition to price.

Following next month's round of pre-orders, we'll probably see one or two more before the Xbox One X launches on November 7. One thing to keep an eye on is whether pre-order momentum stays high or if this was just a case of people rushing to secure a Project Scorpio Edition. Stay tuned, because we'll let you know when the Xbox One X is up for pre-order once more.
