Xbox One X 4K HDR Official Demo app released by Microsoft

The app is called Insects, and its intention is to show what the Xbox One X is really capable of at its best. What we're dealing with here is an app originally intended only for Microsoft's use in showing developers the ins and outs of the Xbox One. Microsoft decided to tweak the app in order to release it publicly for Xbox One X owners to experience the full HDR10 and 4K Ultra HD power of the console just in case they didn't already have a game that did so.

Before you go anywhere, make sure you understand that there is a SEIZURE WARNING with this app. If you're photosensitive or are prone to seizures in the presence of bright flashing lights, don't even download this app in the first place. If you're fine getting blasted with High Dynamic Range colors and lights, by all means continue.

I'm still a big fan of Forza 7, as you'll see in SlashGear's official Xbox One X Setup Guide. I made the purchase and installation of Forza 7 the 10th step on the list of essential setup items for Xbox One X. If you've gotten to step 9, now, and you're not all about buying a racing game, Microsoft has your back with Insects.

"Insects is a real-time, interactive demo designed to showcase the best of 4K Ultra HD, High Dynamic Range, Spatial Audio, and the enhanced visuals of Xbox One X," said a Microsoft dev. "Originally created for game developers, Insects was reinvented to be an educational and engaging demonstration of the console's real-time graphics rendering capabilities."

Microsoft notes that while this app looks best with a 4K Ultra HD TV and HDR, it's not restricted to Xbox One X. This app works on Xbox One S and the original Xbox One as well. If you're rolling with Spacial Audio with the required setup – headphones or a surround sound speaker system – that works here as well;. This app can be downloaded in the Microsoft store or by searching "Insects: An Xbox One X Enhanced Experience."
