Xbox One Upload Studio major update adds effects, templates

Gone are the days when gaming consoles were just that, dedicated computers made for consuming games. Now they have become content creation devices as well that have even turned some gamers into Internet superstars. In the Xbox One world, this is made possible with the Upload Studio app. Today, Microsoft is pushing out a major update to the software that gives users a lot more control and even more options to let their creative juices flow and put together their next big Internet show.

To say that Upload Studio is getting a ton of new features would probably be an understatement. Microsoft has considerably expanded the program to offer not just more features, controls, and knobs but also more time. Now users can put together as much as 15 different segments for a total of 30 minutes running time. That's definitely more than enough for a playthrough recap or a Top 10 video clip.

The new menu screen immediately shows the focus of this update, which is letting you create a new video from scratch or, alternatively, use a template. If you're short on time, you can pick out a pre-made template for a specific type of video, like a Top 5 game, and around a specific game, like CoD or Forza Horizoon.

For those who want more control, however, Upload Studio now offers more bells and whistles. You can choose the type of segment you want, from Intro, Outro, Splash, or even a combination of DVR recordings and Kinect green screens. You can add text overlays or even voiceovers to your clips. And since creating videos isn't a simple linear process, Upload Studio now lets you reorder your segments as you please.

Suffice it to say, creative gamers will find a ton of new things to play with and perhaps new inspiration for their next video project. Some might also be looking forward to Windows 10 already, which will let them bring even desktop games into the world of Upload Studio.
