Xbox One BBC iPlayer app in the works

Fans of the Xbox One game console in the UK who plan to purchase on launch day know that the console will launch with a number of streaming media apps for times you don't feel like playing games. The BBC has confirmed that is currently working on an Xbox One app for its popular iPlayer. However, the app won't be available for a while.

BBC has confirmed that its Xbox One iPlayer app won't be available for the console's November 22 launch date. Microsoft has confirmed 13 entertainment apps that will be available in the UK on November 22. We talked about some of the Xbox One apps will be available in the US earlier this month.

A number of the same applications will be available on launch day in the UK, but there will be some UK specific apps as well. Apps available in the UK for the Xbox One on November 22 will include 4oD, Lovefilm, Blinkbox, Crackle, Demand 5, Eurosport, Machinima, Muzu, Netflix, Now TV, Ted, Twitch, and Wuaki.tv.

Unfortunately, BBC isn't offering any timeframe for when it will have its iPlayer app available for the Xbox One. Other major apps will be missing on November 22 include apps for Sky and ITV. The BBC iPlayer app hit the Xbox 360 in March of 2012.

A BBC spokesperson said:

While we are working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One in the future, we have no further details to share at this time.
