Xbox Live outage hits core services ahead of Fortnite's return

Microsoft is currently experiencing a massive Xbox outage that is impacting the platform's core services, as well as hit game Fortnite. The outage impacts Xbox Live, which is currently preventing some users from signing into their accounts on Xbox One consoles. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is working on it, but there's no word on when users can expect things to be fixed.

Many Xbox Live subscribers have taken to Reddit and Twitter over the last hour to complain about an inability to sign into their accounts. The issue is reflected on DownDetector, which currently shows a massives spike in user reports, the majority of them centered in the Eastern half of the United States.

Other reports have rolled in from Northern Europe, the US West Coast, part of Brazil and Australia, and more. In a tweet on the Xbox Support account, the team said that it has seen these reports and is investigating the matter. At this time, however, it can only promise that more information will be provided once the company figures out what is going on.

The tweet was issued around 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET. The Xbox Live status page currently shows the problem impacting Core Services, which includes signing into accounts, managing accounts, recovering an account, searching, and creating accounts. However, the Xbox team lists the issue as only impacting signing into accounts at this time.

In addition to Core Services, the status page also shows the outage as impacting Fortnite on the Xbox One, something that may result in an uproar if Epic introduces the game's Season 11 before the Xbox team manages to restore services. Though there's no official word at this time, Fortnite is expected to return around 6AM ET on Tuesday, October 15.
