Xbox 360 is the most popular video player in the country

I'll admit that I'm still among the masses that think video games first when I hear the name Xbox 360. After all, the Xbox 360 is a game console. Over the years, the Xbox 360 has transformed from something meant solely for video games into a device that has a myriad of uses. One of the most common uses for the Xbox 360 other than gaming is playing video.

According to recent data compiled by an online video ad firm called Freewheel, the Xbox 360 is the most popular video player in the United States. The Xbox 360 has 28.2% of all video views on non-PC or Mac devices. The iPad is very close to the Xbox the with 27.1% of total views. The iPod/ iPod touch accounts for 10.1% of views, and Android devices overall are 15.2% of total views.

The iPhone has 19.4% of the total video views. It's interesting to see the huge percentage of the video ad market that Apple holds with its various devices. Apple has well over 50% of the video views by devices other than PCs and Macs. The data gathered represents Q1 of 2012. There are some caveats with this data in that it only measures "professional content." That means the data accounts for video views on sites like NBC, CBS, ESPN, and Vevo. However, other videos that are deemed professional content are not counted. That means, that these numbers may be off, but the data is still interesting.
