Xbox 360 is now used more for streaming video than fragging noobs

Many of the big video game console makers like Sony and Microsoft have been pushing hard over the last few years to make their console systems more than just for gamers. One of the big pushes has been to get people to use the PS3 and Xbox 360 as entertainment devices rather than solely for playing games. Apparently, Microsoft has now succeeded in pulling that off.

Microsoft is now reporting that more people are using the Xbox 360 to stream digital media, including TV shows and movies that for playing online games. According to Microsoft's head of marketing and strategy for the Xbox business, Yusuf Mehdi, the average household now spends 84 hours a month on Xbox Live. Over half that time is spent watching video and listening to music.

That number is up 30% from a year ago. The average household spends about 150 hours a month watching TV by comparison. Microsoft recently added HBO Go, Xfinity VOD and other streaming services to the Xbox and boasts more than 20 million people now pay for Xbox Live.
