Windows Defender destroys Superfish

Supposing you were worried that Superfish was going to ruin your Lenovo computer-loving life, there's good news this afternoon. Windows Defender version 1.193.444.0 has been pushed. This version of Windows Defender does two things. First, it detects and removes Superfish entirely. Second, it detects and removes all system certifications affected by Superfish. This means Superfish is gone, erased, and will have left the building in a way that should make it seem like this was all a bad dream. It's time to kick Superfish directly out the door.

This update has a segment filed under category: Potentially Unwanted Software. Described within is the idea that "this program has potentially unwanted behavior." The recommended action within: "remove this software immediately."

If you've been following along with the Superfish news over the past couple of days, you know that it's a bit of software built-in with Lenovo laptops sold in the last quarter of the year 2014. This software goes by the name Superfish and it essentially works like Adware, more or less.

Microsoft creating an update to their Windows Defender software this quick shows some relatively unprecedented quickness in responsiveness, and they do deserve some applause for that. Make it so – destroy it!

Have a peek at the timeline below to catch up on Superfish. And if you have a Lenovo notebook sold within the last several months – or the last couple of months of 2014 – run Windows Defender right this minute.
