Will my phone get the Android Oreo update?

This week's Android Oreo update was announced ready for some smartphones now and a bunch in coming weeks. Today we've got a list of devices that'll certainly get the Android 8.0 Oreo update as well as a few mentions of devices that'll more-than-likely get the update. This list begins with the most obvious members of the Android family: Google's own Pixel and Nexus.

When the update comes along – after this first Oreo update – no worries should be had on device space. With Oreo, users will have seamless updates in full effect. That means only 0.1mb of storage will be needed to update to the newest version of Android from here on out.

Google Phones

From the homegrown family of devices most closely developed by Google, we've got the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. In the same arena we've also got the Pixel and the Pixel XL, all getting Oreo immediately. The Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 will also get this update – but will more likely be launching with Android 8.x Oreo right out the gate. See our How to download the Android 8.0 Oreo update now guide to get started.

Samsung Phones

The universe of Samsung updates to giant versions of Android is complicated. There are lists – entire lists(!) – of devices out there for definite, maybe, and definitely not candidates. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are on the definite list, as are all the Galaxy S7 devices. But what else? Have a peek at the big list to see it all.

HTC Phones

There should be no doubt that the brightly colored HTC U11 will get both Android Oreo and Bluetooth 5. It's rumored that the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play might also get the update, while slightly older phones like the HTC 10 Evo, HTC Desire phones of all sorts, and HTC 10 might not – but we'll see!

ASUS Phones

There's a way to get the ZenFone 3 on Oreo right this minute if you know how to hack. We'll see some of the other most recent ASUS devices on Oreo before long too, more than likely – including the ASUS ZenFone AR.

Nokia Phones

HMD Global (the folks who make Nokia phones at the moment) confirmed that their latest batch of Nokia phones would get Android Oreo. If you look back to June 1st of this year, TechRadar spoke with anb HMD Global executive who confirmed the Nokia 6, 5, and 3 would get Android Oreo. That list now includes the Nokia 8, too.

OnePlus Phones

Both the OnePlus 3 and 3T will get Android Oreo. That also means that the OnePlus 5 will get Oreo before long, too.

Sony Phones

The Xperia line of updates to big versions of Android from Sony comes in the form of a list of smartphones – as always. This is a list of POTENTIAL devices for Android Oreo – that's slightly less than a promise from the company. This has some potential changes too, so watch it!

• Sony Xperia XZ Premium (G 8141, G 8142)

• Sony Xperia XZS (G 8231, G 8232)

• Sony Xperia XA 1 (G 3121, G 3123, G 3125, G 3116, G 3123)

• Sony Xperia L1 (G3311, G3312, G3313)

• Sony Xperia X Compact

• Sony Xperia XZ (F 8331, F 8332)

• Sony Xperia X Performance

• Sony Xperia X (F 5121, F 5122)

• Sony Xperia XA 1 Ultra (G 3221, G 3212, G 3223, G 3226)

LG Phones

The LG G6 and the LG Q6 will almost certainly get the update to Android 8.0 Oreo very soon. The rest of the LG lineup from the last few years might not be so lucky. If there were two more devices I'd bet had a chance of getting Oreo, I'd say LG G5 and LG V20.

Motorola Phones

Motorola hasn't confirmed yet whether their smartphones will get Android Oreo. If history dictates the future, it would not be surprising to see nearly all of Motorola's smartphones released in the year 2017 get an update to Google's latest version of Android in cookie form.
