Wii U To Support Only One Controller Per Console At Launch?

Just wrapping up now is the E3 2011 gaming conference, which revealed Nintendo's next-generation console and controller called the Wii U. The new game controller with its own display brings a lot of new possibilities in game play. But now there are reports that the Wii U might only support one controller per console at launch.

According to Nintendo's senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto, the Wii U isn't designed to interact with more than one of the new controllers at a time. Do note that the Wii U is compatible with classic Wii Remotes. But, does that mean additional players would have to resort to the Wii Remote with only one player able to use the new Wii U controller?

"Our basic premise is that you can use one with a system. If we got to an idea of having multiple (controllers) it might be just more convenient for people to use their Nintendo 3DS and have a way to connect that," Miayamoto said during an interview with News.com.au.

Although Nintendo did not point this out during their announcement, they made sure to only show the new Wii U controller together with other Wii Remotes and not with other Wii U controllers. You can see this in the photo above. And to further support this news is Nintendo's recent announcement that the Wii U controller would not be sold separately from the console.

So what do you guys think of the Wii U now?
