WD My Book Duo external drive brings USB 3.0, two bays

If you're in need of more space for your data and a NAS unit isn't to your taste, Western Digital has rolled out a new direct-attached storage unit, the My Book Duo. With the My Book Duo comes two bays and USB 3.0, as well as some security add-ons.

The My Book Duo (not to be confused with the MyBook VelociRaptor Duo or the MyBook Thunderbolt Duo) comes a $279.99 USD price tag for the 4TB model. For those with greater needs, there's also a 6TB model that is priced at $349.99 USD, and an 8TB model priced at $449.99 USD.

Regardless of capacity, this dual-drive external storage device offers hardware RAID and optional password protection. According to Western Digital, the device offers up to 290MB/s transfer speeds, system-level backup options, hardware encryption, and pre-configuration for RAID 0 with RAID 1 being an option. The drive is compatible with Windows systems.

In addition to the USB 3.0 for connecting the drive to one's system, there are two extra USB 3.0 ports for adding other devices, such as a secondary external drive for even more storage. All three capacities of the My Book Duo are available now.
