watchOS 4.1 leak confirms music streaming, GymKit features

It wasn't too long ago that Apple finally rolled out watchOS 4.0 the public, in time for the launch of the new Apple Watch 3. Very soon, however, users will be seeing a new update for their wearables. Unsurprisingly, some of the new features that will be coming in watchOS 4.1 are going to be available only for the latest gen smartwatches with their own connectivity. But even older models will benefit from it, including the long-awaited arrival of GymKit support.

The independence of the Apple Watch 3 has some key benefits. One of those is being able to make use of Internet services without having the iPhone nearby. As of watchOS 4.1, those services will include music streaming, at least from your Apple Music or iCloud Music collection. The update will also bring a new Radio app for the smartwatch, allowing users to access Beats 1 directly from their wrists.

All Apple Watches in general will also benefit from the update's new GymKit integration. When the update rolls around, users' fitness data will be synced with equipment that support Apple's platform. This promises to provide more accurate metrics for pacing and distance and takes Apple one step closer to its aspirations of being a health-centric tech company.

The update also has bugfixes as well, of course. For series 3 Watches, users will be able to directly disconnect from a Wi-Fi network via the Control Center, which would switch it to using cellular data. Series 1 watches also have a fix for the watch sending heart rate notifications even when disabled.

There is no word yet on when watchOS 4.1 will be released. But considering this information was taken from the Golden Master version, it shouldn't take long, probably next week even.
