Walking Dead creator's new series 'Outcast' to premiere on Cinemax

Robert Kirkman is the creator of The Walking Dead comic series, and also serves as one of the executive producers for the mega-popular TV show on AMC. But with all that success the writer has kept busy, and last year launched a new comic called Outcast. Well, TV networks seem eager to get their hands on anything the man produces, as Cinemax has already ordered a 10-episode run of the show to be made with only six issues of the comic being released so far.

To be clear, this is an entirely new franchise, and not the anticipated Walking Dead prequel/spin-off that is still in development from AMC and Kirkman. That show remains unnamed, but will still take place in the same zombie-filled world as the existing characters.

Outcast is a story about exorcisms and evil spirits, as protagonist Kyle Barnes has spent his life surrounded by demonic possessions and the loss of friends and family to supernatural forces. Development for the comic began several years ago, and the issues released so far begin to tell a story about Barnes' search to understand why he is surrounded by such dark forces. The seventh issue is expected to be released in mid-March.

As for the TV adaptation, which has been planned since before the first comic was even released, Barnes will be played by Patrick Fugit, from Gone Girl and Almost Famous. As of now, only 10 episodes have been ordered, however Cinemax will have the option to order a second season if the show proves popular. No other cast details have been revealed yet, and there is currently no scheduled date for a premiere.
