ViewSonic ViewPad 7e priced and dated for USA release

While this isn't the first time we've seen the tablet named ViewSonic ViewPad 7e, this is the first time we've gotten an official announcement on how we'll be able to grab hold of it here in the USA. This device has an "E" at the end of it because it is indeed the Entry-level tablet offered by ViewSonic. What you'll get is Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a unique interface over the top of it designed by the folks who made SPB Shell 3D. You'll be running this and a 1GHz single-core processor on a 7-inch display with 800 x 600 pixel resolution. Look like the inexpensive tab for you?

Have a look at our hands-on with the ViewPad 7e below and note that this was an earlier build of the device where this final release will, while looking the same on the outside, have a slicker build of software on the innards. Apps such as Amazon Kindle, Twitter, TuneIn Radio, and WildTangent games will be pre-loaded. The 3D interface you see running on top of Android is known here as ViewScene 3D. Look at how wild it looks!

You can output video at 1080p through its microHDMI port, take photos with its 3 megapixel camera on the back, video chat with its 0.3 megapixel camera on the front, or jam in every bit of media you own on its 4GB of internal storage with 32GB expandable microSD card port. You'll be connecting via Wi-fi to the internet, and work with ViewSonic AirSync to get what ViewSonic promises will be "over the air device upgrades as they are rolled out, from feature add-ons to software updates." We can HOPE that this means upgrades will come often – we'll just have to wait and see!

Meanwhile we now know that the ViewPad 7e will be in North America starting at the end of October for an ESP of $199.99 USD. Availability for Latin America will be next on the release schedule, price unknown, starting in November.
