Verykool R80 rugged phone launches in Asia

When you call your company verykool, you had better come up with some handsets that are actually cool. Verykool has done a decent job of living up to its name with the new R80 rugged phone. The thing looks more like a luxury phone than a rugged device. The handset is a quad band phone with GSM/GPRS class 12 tech inside. The phone is water and shock resistant and has a 2.4-inch screen.

That screen has a QVGA resolution for the font screen and the rear screen is a 1-inch OLED. The phone is billed as a survival phone and has features like GPS, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, eCompass, UV detector, pedometer, dual SIM slots and a flashlight.

Other features include a 2MP camera that can record video, a FM tuner, and support for MP3 and MP4 music. The phone can sync with a PC and be used as a USB modem. Internal memory is 30MB and that storage can be expanded with microSD cards to 32GB. Pricing is unknown at this time.
