Verizon's Galaxy Nexus to be priced at $299.99 on 2-year contract, reports WSJ

Following the newly released leaked shots today, the Wall Street Journal has just reported that Verizon's version of the Galaxy Nexus will be priced at $299.99 on a new 2-year contract, which sounds pretty archetypal alongside other Verizon offerings like the Motorola Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound, both of which share the same price point. Unfortunately, what hasn't been confirmed is the actual release date, since the reports didn't get any more specific than "this month".

Customers are going to need to get used to this rapidly standardizing price point for high-end Android smartphones, since it was only a short while ago that anything above $200 was lambasted to be overpriced. Now, Verizon and other carriers of high-end smartphones seem driven on upping the standard price by another hundred dollar bill from your wallet. Hey, as long as the hardware is good, and the storage is enough, then the pricing strategy should work just fine.

For a lot of people, though, including quite a few I know personally, the extra Benjamin Franklin really doesn't matter that much, as long as the murky release date actually gets confirmed, and they won't have to wait in constant doubt and fear over the fact that Verizon may just push the stil-unconfirmed release date back, just "one more time". Ah, the terror. We'll keep you updated on when that date gets finalized in the near future.
