Verizon Galaxy S7 and Edge Android Nougat update incoming

If you own a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge on Verizon, you've had to sit by and watch as users on other carriers receive their Nougat updates. While that can be pretty frustrating, there's finally some good news to report: Your wait is finally over, as Verizon has started rolling out Nougat to both devices.

Verizon's changelogs for the update previews all of the new Nougat features we've heard about time and time again. The battery management utility gets a mention, as does Nougat's new split screen mode. Of course, split screen functionality will be nothing groudbreaking to Samsung users, as many of Samsung's devices have been able to do split screen for some time now.

One thing to note is that Verizon is using this Nougat update to remove its go90 app from the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Verizon has been moving away from its in-house video streaming service in recent months, after originally launching it back in 2015. It would seem that with Nougat's arrival on the Galaxy S7, go90 is one step closer to being well and truly dead.

Slowly but surely, Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets have been getting their Nougat updates. After a beta period spanning multiple releases, Samsung was ready to roll out the update back in January, and we've been seeing carriers in the US approving it for release in the time since then.

Verizon, which has traditionally been pretty slow in approving updates, managed to get this one out the door in a little under two months. So, while it could do better, that kind of time frame isn't exactly horrible. Verizon Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users should be seeing the OTA notification for Nougat pop up shortly, but if you're impatient, you can always manually check for the update through the Settings menu on your phone.
