Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 hit with a delay

Earlier this year, Paradox Interactive and Hardsuit Labs surprised us all by announcing a sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. That game was first released way back in 2004, so 15 years down the line, there probably wasn't anyone left with hope that someone would one day create a sequel. Unfortunately, those of you who have already waited 15 years for Bloodlines 2 will have to wait a little longer, as the game has been hit with a delay.

Hardsuit Labs announced the delay in a developer blog post earlier today. Bloodlines 2 was originally scheduled to launch in Q1 2020, and while that wasn't exactly specific, it's a launch window that we're quickly closing in on. In its announcement today, Hardsuit announced that the game will miss that window, though Bloodlines 2 will still launch within 2020.

In its statement today, Hardsuit said that one goal with this game is avoiding the mistakes of the first. While the first Bloodlines does have a lot of fans out there, it did have its issues too, and many of those issues existed because the game was launched too early.

"Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake," Hardsuit wrote today. "We won't do that. In the end, everyone working on this game wants to offer you the best Bloodlines 2 we can."

It wasn't all sad news, though. The studio reports that it feels it's on the path to providing a game that delivers "a deep, branching storyline; fascinating and amazingly acted characters," and "the rich universe of the World of Darkness." Assuming that Hardsuit can meet its goal of delivering all of that, then it sounds like Bloodlines 2 could very well be worth the additional wait.

In the more immediate future, Hardsuit and Paradox will be visiting PDXCON in Berlin this weekend to talk about Bloodlines 2. The developer is currently taking questions about Bloodlines 2 over on the game's subreddit, and it plans to stream its answers to these questions on Paradox's Twitch channel on Sunday, October 20th at 4:00 PM CET. If you're looking forward to Bloodlines 2, you might want to set aside some time to check out that livestream this weekend.
