Update to Windows 8.1 now with new fixed program

Back on April 8th, 2014, Microsoft released Windows 8.1 to the public for free download as an upgrade to Windows 8. A number of users were unable to grab the update at that time – and since – because of a problem which locked them in an update failed cycle. Microsoft's newest solution to this comes in a Windows 8 and Windows RT Pilot Program.

This update no longer uses the Windows Store to update users to Windows 8.1 – we must assume the problem lie there. Instead we're seeing Windows 8.1 for Windows 8 and Windows RT coming from this "experiment" from Microsoft via Windows Update instead of the store.

For those of you aiming to make use of this update, you'll be needing to download update 2871389 first – this is an absolute MUST do.

From there, the Windows RT version of this Windows 8.1 fix is available via Microsoft Support. At this time we're keeping an eye out for the Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 iteration of this software. Let us know if you see it pop up and we'll be looking to do the same!
