UberEats service to launch in NYC and nine other locations

We are all familiar with Uber and the ride sharing service that the company offers. Essentially, with that service you use an app to hail a car to take you wherever you need to go. Uber has been trialing a new service called UberEats in a few cities around the country and has announced that the food delivery service is ready to kick off in ten major cities in the US.

The biggest of those cities is NYC. Other cities where UberEats will be available include LA, Chicago, and Austin, Texas. Users of Uber Eats will use a dedicated app for the service that will offer the full menu from dozens of local restaurants. The food will be picked up and delivered by an Uber driver.

Uber certainly isn't the first company to offer this sort of service, competitor Sidecar trialed a food delivery service and a package delivery service before it shut down and sold to GM for its Maven service. UberEats is an expansion of a lunch only service that Uber offered in about 12 cities last year and UberEats will use the same network of drivers to transport goods that normally transports people.

The UberEats app will launch in the Apple App Store and Google Play by the end of March. The UberEats app is the first time that Uber has built a new app from the ground up since launching its main app five years ago. Hours of operating for Uber Eats will vary city to city.
