Twitter now has "Connections" a la Facebook's "Mutual Friends"

Twitter has now combined its "Followed By" and "You Both Follow" features into one area simply called "Connections." Similar to Facebook's "Mutual Friends" area, the Twitter Connections area will allow you to view the number of followers you have in common as well as see complete lists of those followers when you click on "more".

Twitter hopes to become more useful as a social graph with this new feature. "By exposing accounts that you and another user have in common, you will now know how those acocunts are connected to other accounts you already follow. As a result, you'll be able to make more informed decisions about which accounts to follow," says Twitter's Carolyn Penner. You follow that?

Although Facebook and Foursquare have had this type of social graph in place for some time now, it has been difficult for Twitter to work it into their microblogging network as they also have to contend with the concepts of follower vs friend vs followed. Twitter does not have have any new Connections features planned at this time.
