Twine racks up over $500,000 in Kickstarter funding [Updated]

We talked about Twine and the fact that it was on Kickstarter looking for funding back in November. The company behind Twine is called Supermechanical and they were only seeking $35,000 to be funded tomorrow. They got that $35,000 many, many times over in what has turned out to be one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns in history.

Twine has landed 3,762 backers with a total raised of $528,491. The funding ends on January 3 at 12:00pm EST. Twine is a small blue square that has internal sensors that you can use to put just about anything online from your door to your dryer and just about anything else you can think of. I'd like to put one on my mailbox so I'll know when the mail ninja has happened by.

You can still pre-order if you want in for another seven hours roughly. Spending $99 gets you the Twine sensor and batteries; $115 gets you the Twine sensor and one external sensor breakout board. To get the Twine and an external magnetic or moisture sensor costs $115, $165 will buy the Twine and all three available external sensors. The most you can spend is $500 or more to get two Twines in a limited-edition color and two sets of three external sensors.

Update: The final tally is in: $556,541 with a total of 3,966 backers to the project. If you didn't get in on the Kickstarter, you can preorder Twine here from $99; it's expected to ship in May 2012.
