TP-Link Talon AD7200 WiFi router packs 802.11ad 60GHz support

TP-Link has rolled out a new multi-band WiFi router at CES 2016 that claims to be the first WiFi router based on 802.11ad technology. Inside the router are 802.11ad and 802.11ac MU-MIMO solutions from Qualcomm Atheros. The router is called the TP-LINK Talon AD7200 Multi-band Wi-Fi router. It's capable of delivering network speeds up to 4.6 Gbps on 60 GHz bands.

The router is able to use new bandwidth in the 60GHz range in addition to supporting the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The improved speed allows users to gain access to more bandwidth for streaming media and uploads.

TP-LINK claims that the router can download an entire feature length 4k video in about four minutes or transfer 1000 photos to storage in five seconds. This is all assuming your internet connection has the bandwidth to support that performance claim.

The manufacturer claims that the Talon router has 2.5 times better 11ac performance than other devices. Inside the router is a 1.4GHz dual core CPU. Eight antennas and amps improve WiFi signal strength and the device has two USB 3.0 ports along with four-gigabit Ethernet ports. Pricing is unannounced and the Talon router will ship in early 2016.
