Toyota LQ offers AI assistant and level 4 autonomous driving

Toyota has unveiled the new LQ and says that the car aims to build an emotional bond with the driver. LQ is a concept car that is the next generation of the Toyota Concept-i car that was unveiled at CES 2017. LQ has level 4 automated driving capability and an integrated AI assistant.

The AI assistant is called Yui and is designed to learn from the driver and deliver a personalized mobility experience. Toyota says that LQ follows a core development theme of "Learn, Grow, Love." The automated driving capability of the car was developed in partnership with Toyota Research Institute and aims to create a unique mobility experience.

Toyota says that Yui will learn and respond to the individual preferences and needs of the driver. Toyota plans to put the LQ on display at the Future Expo, a special exhibit at the 2019 Toyota Motor Show starting on October 24. Toyota will also hold a "Toyota Yui Project Tours 2020" that is a public test drive event that will run from June to September 2020.

Other features of the LQ includes an automated valet parking system that allows the car to park itself in an assigned parking space. The feature is aimed at people with mobility limitations. The system relies on on-vehicle systems that include cameras, sonar, radar, 2D road mapping, and cameras in the parking lot and control center. LQ has an augmented reality HUD, or AR-HUD, that expands the information display areas of the HUD.

The seats in the car have alertness and relaxation functions to keep the driver relaxed or awake, depending on the driving function. The dashboard uses OLED panels, and the car has an air purification coating. The interior is designed for four people and has a futuristic design.
