Touchscreen Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook mod

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is the latest netbook to get an aftermarket touchscreen.  The work of MyDellMini forum member Deldotb, the touchscreen connects via USB and, with Linux drivers easily available, works throughout the netbook system.Video demos of the Inspiron Mini 9 touchscreen mod after the cut

There's still room for improvement, however.  Tracing USB connections proved too arduous, so the current setup monopolises one of the connections for an external USB port; all the cables are inside, but the port can't be used on the outside.  Meanwhile the touchscreen panel itself – sourced from eBay – is only a USB 1.1 model and as such displays poor resolution on curved lines.

However, with some patience and skill the internal motherboard or Mini PCI-e traces could be followed, and a different touchscreen panel could improve the resolution.  One good thing about the current model used is the flexibility of the included software: it allows you to specify click speed, calibration points and even which part of the screen you want to be touch-sensitive.
