Toshiba starts shipping UIM cards with NFC tech integrated

Toshiba has announced that it has started shipping new UIM cards to KDDI Corporation that support NFC (near field communications). NFC is going to be really big in the coming months with lots of companies big and small testing out things like mobile payment systems using NFC tech.

Toshiba developed the UIM card that is equipped with CDMA2000 and GSM network support. The new Toshiba cards were built using the European Telecommunications Standards Institute-Smart Card Platform (ETSI SCP) standards. The new cards and NFC tech will let users pay for things with their smartphone, redeem coupons, and a lot more.

Toshiba is ready to mass produce UIM cards for the global market and to promote the cards globally to operators in the US, Europe, and Asia. The cool part about the cards is that they can be integrated into smartphones and other devices to add NFC tech allowing the phone functionality to be expanded.
