Toshiba Rolls Out Largest SSD With 512GB

Toshiba introduces a record setting SSD with its latest 43nm Multi-Level Cell Flash technology, doubling the 256GB record set earlier this year, boosts 512GB of massive NAND storage space into the 2.5-inch disc drive platform. New arrival also improves drive speed; data access rates reach a jaw dropping sequential read speed of 240MB/s and sequential write speed of 200MB/s.

Additionally, the 43nm NAND SSD family also including smaller size members from 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities to be available in physically smaller 1.8-inch disc drive platform as well as the 2.5-inch or as SSD Flash Modules.

Toshiba says its 2nd gen SSDs bolsters advanced MLC controller to increase drive performance with parallel data transfers and improve reliability. Security feature offers AES data encryption to prevent unauthorized data access.

Toshiba will showcase its new SSDs at the coming CES 2009. PC makers can expect the drive samples to be available in the first quarter of 2009 while mass production will be following in the second quarter.
