Toshiba launches SDHC memory card with built-in NFC

Toshiba has rolled out a new type of memory card with a technology inside that we haven't seen before. The memory card is a SDHC card with integrated NFC functionality. The new memory card will be offered in three different capacities of 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. The official unveil of the memory card was done at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week.

We have had memory cards with integrated WiFi connectivity for a long time, but Toshiba says that these are the first memory cards in the world with integrated Near Field Communications technology. Thanks to the integrated NFC technology, you no longer have to take the memory card out of your camera or other device and put it into a PC to see what is on the card.

With the new Toshiba NFC memory cards all you need to do is hold an Android smartphone with NFC tech inside that has the Memory Card Preview app installed to the memory card. That app will allow you to see what is on the memory card.

The app will show how much storage space is used as well as 16 thumbnails of photos that are stored on the card. The cards are UHS speed Class 1 and SD speed class 10. The NFC tech inside is NFC Forum Type 3 Tag compliant. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.
