TI Educations rolls out new TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator

If you took math classes in high school or college that required a graphing calculator, you probably worked using a TI model of some sort. One of the most popular calculator lines that TI offers is the TI-84 Plus family and the company has announced a new color screen calculator that fits into that family of products. The new calculator is called the TI-84 Plus CE.

TI says that the new calculator builds on the success of the color screen TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition calculator using a similar thin, high-resolution color screen. The new calculator is 30% thinner and 30% lighter than the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition. The TI-84 Plus CE will also be offered in seven colors including black, grey, pink, purple, blue, and what appears to be a teal color.

Hardware inside the calculator includes an ez80 processor with an unknown clock speed. The calculator has 154kb of user accessible RAM and a 3.5MB user accessible flash ROM. The color LCD is a 16-bit unit with resolution of 320 x 240. TI fits the TI-84 Plus CE with a micro-USB port a and power comes from a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery.

That battery promises up to a month of regular use per charge. TI also gave the calculator a new deep sleep feature that allows the calculator to save power over months of non-use. The operating system is TI-OS 5.0 and the calculator can be programmed using TI-Basic and Assembly. Pricing is unknown at this time.
