ThinkPad P72 workstation is a powerhouse laptop for pros

Joining the newly announced ThinkPad P1 mobile workstation is Lenovo's new P72, a workstation laptop offering massive storage capacity options alongside top-tier hardware. Though this model isn't as light or thin as the svelte P1 model, the new ThinkPad P72 offers a huge 17.3-inch 4K display, as well as a full keyboard with a numpad and a slew of ISV certifications.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P72 workstation features a 17.3-inch display with both Full HD and 4K UHD options, the latter boasting 100-percent Adobe color gamut with 10-bit color depth and 400nits brightness. Buyers can get up to an 8th-gen Intel Xeon processor, NVIDIA Quadro P5200 graphics, and 6TB of storage. The laptop also features 4 SoDIMM slots supporting 32GB per DIMM.

Buyers are given multiple operating system choices, with Windows 10 Pro and 10 Pro for Workstations both being offered, as well as preloaded Ubuntu and certified Redhat Linux. The P72 also boasts multiple security options, including dTPM 2.0, a touch fingerprint reader, and a Kensington Lock Slot.

Joining the beastly hardware are a variety of ports, including a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports, USB-A, HDMI 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, a Mini Display 1.4, a smart card reader, combo audio jack, and a 4-in-1 SD card reader. Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11a/c+.

The ThinkPad P72 is Energy Star 6.1 rated, among other green certifications, and there's ISV certifications for SolidWorks, Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Maya, and similar software. Lenovo offers a Workstation Dock as an optional accessory, as well as a Passage Backpack that can handle the model's hefty 7.5lbs weight.
