The Last of Us Part 2 confirmed for next PlayStation State of Play

Yesterday, Sony announced its plans to host another State of Play presentation next week. For the uninitiated, State of Play is essentially Sony's answer to the Nintendo Direct – a livestreamed broadcast that covers new and upcoming games for the PlayStation 4. As per usual, Sony was tight-lipped about what the show will include, but now we know of one big game that be featured during it.

That game is Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2. That Sony would cover The Last of Us Part 2 during the next State of Play shouldn't come as much of a surprise, considering that it's probably the most anticipated PS4 game on the horizon.

Naughty Dog confirmed that the game will be featured during State of Play in a post to Twitter today, which you can see embedded above. The tweet is accompanied by a video that doesn't show us much – only a switchblade in front of an animated background – but at the bottom is says "State of Play / September 24, 2019 / 1PM PT."

Aside from The Last of Us Part 2, we're not sure what we'll see during the next State of Play. Sony says that the presentation will last around 20 minutes and, unfortunately, won't feature any new information about the PlayStation 5. We'll be waiting a while longer for new details about Sony's next-gen console, as this State of Play stream will only cover upcoming games for PlayStation 4.

The hope, of course, is that we get an actual release date for The Last of Us Part 2 during State of Play. Should that happen, it'll be a long time coming, as the game was announced way back in December 2016. We'll let you know what kind of information Sony spills during the show, so check back here on September 24th for all you need to know from the latest State of Play.
