The 400 horsepower 2018 Audi TT RS just got a US price

Audi is making good use of its all-new five cylinder engine, dropping the 400 HP monster under the hood of the 2018 Audi TT RS, which has finally been priced up for the US today. The latest addition to the renamed Audi Sport range, the 2018 TT RS is the most powerful production TT so far, with the automaker claiming a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. Top speed is 174 mph with the optional Dynamic plus package.

Without that, it's a still-healthy 155 mph. Either way, you get standard quattro all-wheel drive that uses an electrohydraulic multi-plate clutch so as to potentially push almost 100-percent of the 354 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Maximum torque arrives at 1,700 rpm.

Audi is making a big deal of the 2018 TT RS' soundtrack, unusual thanks to the five-cylinder design. It's amplified with the standard twin oval tailpipes – or optional RS sport exhaust, with black oval tailpipes – and the whoop of the BorgWarner turbocharger.

A seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission is standard, with a new launch control setting. There's also Audi's drive select system, with comfort, auto, dynamic, and individual modes: that adjusts the settings for gear shift points, steering, and throttle response. With the standard-fit magnetic ride, it also adjusts the damper control.

However, if you're headed to the track you might not want magnetic ride. Audi is also offering an RS fixed sport suspension system as part of the Dynamic plus package, which is stiffer for better performance when pushed hard. Either way, you get four-link rear suspension and a McPherson front suspension, with forged aluminum lower control arms, together with progressive steering that tightens up the ratio the more you turn the wheel.

The standard brakes are eight-piston mono block calipers with 370mm ventilated and cross-drilled discs up front. Go for the Dynamic plus package, though, and they're switched for carbon-ceramic brake discs and Anthracite Gray painted calipers, saving 8 pounds in the process. A fixed rear wing spoiler is standard, together with full LED headlights, taillights, and running lights.

Inside, there are S sport seats with adjustable side bolsters, a three-spoke flat-bottomed sport steering wheel with paddle-shifters, and Audi's Virtual Cockpit digital display. Leather and Alcantara come as standard, and there's optional red contrast diamond stitching and matching trim on the air vents and seat belts.

Options include OLED taillights and 20-inch seven-spoke forged wheels. Like the standard 19-inch five-arm wheels, they're shod in summer rubber. Audi's Black optic package gets 20-inch high-gloss anthracite forged wheels, matching exterior mirror housings, and a matching interior. A 680W Bang & Olufsen audio system packing the cabin with 12 speakers is available, along with Audi connect with 4G LTE, a navigation system, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support.

All in all, it's shaping up to be the hottest TT ever, and you can take our word for that as we drove the Euro-spec model back in December. Back then, our big question was when we could get it in the US, and how much of a dent it might make in our wallets, questions we now have answers to. The 2018 TT RS will arrive in dealerships this spring, where it will be priced from $64,900, with $975 destination on top.
