The 2018 Nissan Armada Platinum Reserve has a feature all SUVs should use

Today, Nissan announces the latest addition to the Armada lineup, and it's aiming for drivers looking for luxury with their AWD. For the first time, the automaker has equipped the 2018 Armada Platinum and Platinum Reserve models with its Intelligent Rear View Mirror (I-RVM), which will be a standard-fit item on the new SUV trim. The mirror uses a high-resolution camera mounted on the rear of the vehicle to project an image onto an LCD monitor built into the standard rearview mirror.

A switch located on the bottom of the mirror allows the driver to flip between the traditional mirror view or the new Intelligent Rear View Mirror. It's not the first time we've seen the technology, though this marks not only the first time Nissan has offered it in the US, and the first implementation of it in an SUV. It means that, even with a truck full of people, you should still get a clear view of what's going on behind the Armada with no heads in the way.

Elsewhere, the Nissan Connect Services are standard too, built around an 8-inch multi-touch display from which you can control the HD Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link. Nissan is using an enhanced version of its voice recognition system, with support for hands-free text messaging, while the SUVs also get additional USB ports.

For the exterior, Nissan fitted a Dark Chrome trim front grille, door handles, outside mirrors, and 20-inch wheels. The interior has two-tone leather-appointed seats with unique stitching, unique Black Quartz trim, and premium wood-tone interior finishes, along with an embossed "Platinum Reserve" emblem on the console lid. If that doesn't appeal, however, there are also three new Midnight Edition models joining the Armada line-up.

The TITAN, TITAN XD, and Frontier Midnight Editions will all throw a selection of Nissan's individually-offered features at the SUVs, and though pricing is yet to be confirmed for each, the automaker says they should save you some money compared to putting the configurations together piecemeal. The TITAN and TITAN XD Midnight Editions each get black front grilles with dark inserts and matching dark headlamps, along with black trim to the exterior mirror and handles, step rails, and more. There are also 20-inch black painted aluminum-alloy wheels.

As for the 2018 Armada Frontier Midnight Edition, that steps up to a black gloss grille and 18-inch gloss black aluminum alloy wheels, while the step rails are semi-gloss finish. It'll be offered in Magnetic Black, Gun Metallic, and Glacier White, while the TITAN and TITAN XD cars will be offered in Magnetic Black, Gun, Metallic, and Pearl White. All three are expected to go on sale in late fall 2017.

The Armada Platinum Reserve topping the lineup packs Nissan's standard 390-horsepower 5.6-liter Endurance V8, paired with a 7- speed automatic transmission. Even with its focus on luxe, it still has a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds for both the 4WD and 2WD models. It'll arrive in dealerships come late October, priced from $61,690 for the 2WD and from $64,590 for the AWD, plus $1,295 destination.
