Thank you, Apple. You've outdone yourself on the Mac Pro 2013

I'm a complainer. I know it. My family knows it. And anyone who has read my repeated diatribes here on SlashGear knows it. I don't like products that I feel could be better. And I can't stand when companies seem to ignore the consumer's plea for enhancements. That's precisely the way I felt everytime I even looked at the Mac Pro I'm writing this on now. I felt that Apple has ignored my pleas for a better desktop for years, and it seemed as if the company didn't care. The Mac Pro was an afterthought, I believed, and there was not a single thing I could do about it.

And then Apple held its keynote address at the Worldwide Developers Conference and everything – yes, everything – changed.

When Apple showed off the upcoming Mac Pro, I was blown away. A desktop with that much firepower looking that cool and that small? Surely it was a joke. Surely, after years of ignoring the Mac Pro, Apple wasn't serious about actually doing something extremely special with the desktop.

But no, Apple isn't joking. The little, teenie-weenie Mac Pro is coming soon. And when it does – likely for thousands and thousands of dollars – a lot of guys like me will be drooling over it when it's on display at the Apple Store.

I'm an avid Mac Pro fan. I currently run three displays on my rig, and need the firepower that it delivers for all kinds of functions, like video editing. But my current Mac Pro is starting to lose some of its "oomph" and I had become worried that I might need to ditch the computer altogether and do the unthinkable – build my own computer running Windows.

Luckily, though, I decided that I should wait. I figured that I'd give Apple one last chance to prove to me that it still cares about its power users. And luckily for all of us power users, the company came through. Now, I don't need to buy a Windows PC and I have no reason to sit here and complain against Apple any longer.

Once again, Apple has found a way to lure me back in. The company was playing games with me for a few years, and I was ready to walk out in protest. But with a computer that might just be the most beautiful desktop I've ever seen, Apple has found its way back into my computer geek heart. And judging by the Mac Pro's specs, there's a very, very good chance that it won't leave it for a long time.

So, I suppose I owe Apple an apology. All of those times I was criticizing you for not doing something about the Mac, you were doing something truly fantastic. And here I sat thinking you weren't doing a thing.

Sorry, Apple. And thanks. You've made my desktop-loving heart a little bit fuller today.
