Tetris Effect kicks off five days of pre-E3 PlayStation reveals

With E3 2018 quickly coming up, Sony has decided to build anticipation for its press conference a little early. The company has announced that, beginning today, it will make daily reveals in the lead up to its E3 presser on Monday night. Today's reveal is Tetris Effect, a new game from Enhance, the studio behind Rez Infinite and Lumines Remastered.

That Enhance is developing this title should give you an immediate idea of what you're in for. Taking its title from the real-world phenomenon of the same name, Tetris Effect wants your time spent lining up blocks to be a memorable one. In pursuit of this goal, Enhance has made the game's visuals a bit more intense than what you might be used to from a standard Tetris game.

In all, there will be more than 30 stages, which each have their own background, visual effects, and music. Game modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra – which have become commonplace in Tetris games throughout the years – will be returning in Tetris Effect, and a new "Zone" mechanic will allow you to stop time to save yourself from a game over or line up a chain of line clears.

Tetris Effect will offer support for PlayStation Pro, and since the game isn't super graphics-intensive, you'll be able to play it in 4K at 60 frames per second. You'll also be able to play Tetris Effect using PlayStation VR, though to be honest, it would be surprising to not see PSVR support given Enhance's history with games like Rez Infinite.

Elsewhere on the PlayStation Blog, Sony briefly detailed the reveals it has in store for the next four days. Tomorrow, we'll get a release date for an upcoming game from Worldwide Studios, while a new PS4 game will be revealed on Friday. We'll have details of those announcements for you as they happen, so be sure to check back with us here as SlashGear as we continue to barrel toward E3.
