Xbox Series X better than PS5 pre-launch for one key reason

The Xbox Series X has a significant advantage over the Sony PlayStation 5 before launch. Not because the devices aren't capable of the same graphics power, or the Xbox is designed to fit under your television's weird table any better. But because the Xbox Series X rolls with a list of games that'll run with an image refresh rate of 120FPS - a list that's larger than that of the PS5.

Some Xbox Series X buyers are about to get a huge disappointment

The sloppy way in which Amazon lists products matched with Microsoft's confusing Xbox naming scheme made for a perfect storm this week. The Xbox Series X was released on pre-order, pushing the console to the number one "gainers in sales rank over the past 24 hours" spot in the "Video Games" category. Not far behind that, in the number 4 spot, was the Xbox One X.

Marvel’s Avengers lands on Xbox One, Stadia sans Spidey

Marvel’s Avengers lands on Xbox One, Stadia sans Spidey

It's an eerie world we live in, almost like something straight out of a comic book plot. The world today is almost completely different world last year when Marvel's properties were at their peak. That is the world that Marvel's Avengers, the first major standalone game to launch independent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is launching in and its success or downfall will also probably be like a comic book tale.

Wonder Woman 1984 Xbox customs are nightmares for a good cause

If you're all about owning the most insanely outlandish Xbox consoles ever customized, now's the time to look. Today Microsoft revealed three Xbox One X consoles that've been customized for the release of the film Wonder Woman 1984. They exist to benefit a good cause, but also... they do not function.

FIFA 21 “no cross-play” highlights break between PS4, PS5, Xbox One X, Series X

FIFA 21 “no cross-play” highlights break between PS4, PS5, Xbox One X, Series X

The soccer (football) game FIFA 21 will not allow players to meet across console generations, console to console, or console to... anything else, really. EA noted this week that users will be able to carry over their progression from an older console generation to a newer generation, but no cross-play will be available for anyone, at all, ever. This might well be the first major example of the dropping off point between generations of consoles released at the tail end of 2020.

Xbox Series X release date range and statement on One X games

Xbox Series X release date range and statement on One X games

Today Microsoft made a sort of promise - more like a statement of intent - for the games that'll be available to play on Xbox Series X at launch. They've suggested that "you will be able to play four generations of games on Xbox Series X on day one." They went on to say that "it's our intent for all Xbox One games that do not require Kinect to play on Xbox Series X at the launch of the console." Notice there that it's not a promise, but a statement of intent - there's a little wiggle room there just in case a weird game or two do not work on Xbox Series X.

Microsoft just discontinued these Xbox One consoles

Microsoft just discontinued these Xbox One consoles

With the next generation of game consoles on the horizon, Microsoft has made the rather surprising decision to discontinue production on the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S All Digital Edition. Obviously, we expect to see platform holders discontinue their older consoles - even the PlayStation 2, which is the best-selling console of all time, was discontinued at some point - but what's surprising here is that Microsoft is discontinuing these platforms before the next generation even begins.

Cyberpunk 2077 delayed into ideal sale date

Another day, another delay of the game Cyberpunk 2077. This time, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski and head of studio Adam Badowski suggested that they've got another good reason. This time, the delay pushes the release from September 17, 2020, to November 19, 2020 - right to the point at which they've selling the game at the same time as the release of the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5.

Xbox Series X price leak could blow PS5 out of the water

Xbox Series X price leak could blow PS5 out of the water

The Microsoft Xbox Series X price and release date schedule leaked in part, suggesting the Sony PlayStation 5 could be in trouble. Of course we still do not know the pricing of the PlayStation 5 for certain, but if a leaked listing on Amazon France proves accurate, Sony might need to make some adjustments. Today's situation with Microsoft seems to be that they'll position the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as "loss leaders", with prices that rely heavily on future game purchases and subscription fees gathered from gamers that've bought into their ecosystem.
