There’s a new Samsung Gear VR to play nice with Note 7

Samsung isn't just launching a new phablet today, but introducing an updated version of its Gear VR virtual reality headset, complete with a new connector and a more immersive experience. The new Gear VR picks up where the existing, Oculus-powered model leaves off, with the Android smartphone docking in a bay at the front and lending its processing power and display to 360-degree photos and videos along with games and apps.

OnePlus 3 does have USB OTG support, but it’s hidden

OnePlus 3 does have USB OTG support, but it’s hidden

OnePlus definitely dodged a bullet on this one. The relatively small Chinese company was one of the few Android manufacturers to jump on the new USB Type-C train with the OnePlus 2. However, it missed to get a perfect score when Google engineer and USB-C Crusader Benson Leung revealed that the company's USB-C accessories weren't up to spec. Now it's the OnePlus 3's turn to almost get a scathing review because it didn't support USB Host Mode, a.k.a. USB OTG, right out of the box without flipping a switch.

Galaxy Note 7 leaked to sport USB-C, Always On Display

Given this is Samsung we're talking about, it isn't really out of the ordinary that it would rumored to be putting anything and everything new in the upcoming Galaxy Note 7. We've already seen "proof" of, for the first time, an iris scanner on the device. Now we're getting a glimpse of two more unconfirmed features for the phablet. For one, it could also be the first Samsung smartphone to get the new USB Type-C port that other OEMs have started supporting. And, not that surprising, it is shown also getting the Always On Display introduced in the Galaxy S7.

Forget MateBook, Huawei made the perfect MacBook gadget

Forget MateBook, Huawei made the perfect MacBook gadget

The world is full of mysteries, but the question simmering among many is why Apple is still yet to produce a USB-C dock for the Retina MacBook. The port-light ultraportable has demonstrated its commitment to the USB-C spirit with two generations resolutely sticking to the idea that a single port is sufficient, but salvation for those with a handful of things to connect comes from a perhaps unlikely source.

Huawei MateBook Review: Two big deal-breakers for this iPad Pro rival

For years, Apple has cornered the market in stylish tablets, but Huawei's MateBook has arrived to steal the iPad's crown. Announced to no shortage of fanfare at Mobile World Congress in February, the MateBook pieces together the style of an iPad Pro, the connectivity of a MacBook, and the flexibility of full Windows 10. Question is, does Huawei's math add up, or is the MateBook too ambitious for its own good?

LG G5 can connect to LG’s USB-C 4K monitor

LG G5 can connect to LG’s USB-C 4K monitor

Despite being an industry standard, Google engineer Benson Leung, who worked on the Pixel C Android tablet, discovered that adoption was not only slow but also done improperly. To some extent, it's understandable given how new the technology is. So it isn't hard to imagine Leung's contentment when he discovered last month that the LG G5 actually supported the standard's Power Deliver spec. Apparently, the good news doesn't stop there, as he is now reporting that it also supports the new DisplayPort over USB-C spec, which allows it to connect to LG's own 27-inch 4K USB Type-C monitor.

Belkin USB-C Car Charger powers your gadgets on the go

Gadgets that drop micro USB in favor of USB-C chargers are slowly growing in number, and that means all the charging cables you've amassed over the years won't do you much good. The new Belkin USB-C Car Charger is exactly what it sounds like, and it is available starting today for $44.99 USD.

MacBook Pro spy photos hint at OLED touch strip, no MagSafe

It's been a while since Apple made any huge change to its MacBook Pro line but the upcoming new model might prove to be the most controversial, or at least most talked about, one. Aside from the usual internal updates, like processor or RAM, rumors point to equally substantial new features on the outside of the MacBook Pro. A fresh batch of leaked photos of the alleged cutouts for the new notebook confirm the rumored OLED touch display strip above the keyboard. But they also reveal other changes that might not sit well with everyone, like the removal of MagSafe charging and full-sized USB ports.

Acer H277HU USB-C Monitor Review: Your MacBook’s best friend

Acer H277HU USB-C Monitor Review: Your MacBook’s best friend

USB-C is our salvation from cable madness, at least that's what they tell us, but as early adopters of Apple's MacBook or other cutting-edge hardware have realized, reality hasn't caught up to the promise. The theory, and indeed the core technology, is sound, but it's illustrative of the dearth of peripherals that the Acer H277HU display is causing as much interest as it is. Yes, you can plug it into your old-school PC, but this is really all about USB-C.

LG G5 USB-C supports Power Delivery, Qualcomm Quick Charge

LG G5 USB-C supports Power Delivery, Qualcomm Quick Charge

Despite the promises of a better USB future, USB Type-C, the reversible, all-in-one connection, is still in a stage fraught with growing pains. Some manufacturers and accessory makers are too eager to jump onto the USB-C bandwagon that they don't always check for proper compliance and implementation. Even OnePlus was guilty of that rookie mistake. Fortunately, it seems that LG has learned from others' mistakes and has ensured that the USB-C port on the LG G5 is compatible with both Qualcomm's proprietary Quick Charge 3.0 and the more standard USB Power Delivery 2.0 spec.

Surface Book 2 to have USB-C port, 4K screen

If you have been waiting for the next iteration of the Surface Book before sinking your teeth into Microsoft's first laptop, then your patience might be paying off. Or not. The Surface Book is undoubtedly an impressive piece of tech but it was still rough around the edges and suffered first gen problems. A new generation of Surface Books is expected for the second half of this year which could address many of those pain points. But the addition of a USB-C port and an upgrade to a 4K resolution screen might not exactly be what others would consider a significant improvement.
