Google’s Project Tango is an exciting look into the future of tablets, gaming, and just overall tech. The devices, via series of cameras and sensors, can map environments and objects in 3D. We knew Project tango would be made available “later” this year, but as time ticked away, we wondered if Google was just behind a bit. Turns out, they may not be. NVIDIA has teamed up with Google to bring the Tegra K1 processor to the just-revealed Project Tango tablet. This device will make use of a number of sensors and software algorithms to "understand space and motion the way humans do." This tablet will work with many of the same abilities shown earlier this year in the Google Tango phone.

The Syrian Electronic Army has claimed ownership of a hack against Tango, saying they swiped 1.5 terabytes worth of user data. Tango has since confirmed that a breach of its system did take place, saying that the hackers accessed "some data." They did not, however, confirm whether it was the SEA, nor did they provide details on the extent of the security breach.

Windows Phone users working with AT&T-connected devices for the past few weeks and months have been in a bit of a pickle as the carrier has not sent out a Microsoft-made software update made available this January. This update fixed several bugs in Windows Phone 7.5 Mango including a "disappearing keyboard" issue - all of this will now instead be fixed by a slightly more grand update instead. AT&T representative Anne Marshall spoke up this week about how AT&T has decided to skip smaller, incremental updates to Windows Phone in the short run and stick with larger updates like Windows Phone Tango, which is up for release next.

This week is the beginning of Microsoft's biggest push ever for the expansion of their "App Hub" for Windows Phone, developers being tipped to "Prepare now and beat the crowd" for 23 new marketplaces around the world. With the Windows Phone Tango expansion of the mobile operating system made to access devices with lower-tiered specifications for less expensive smartphones as well, Microsoft is now coming at a vast new set of markets in lower-income areas of the planet everywhere from Bulgaria to the Ukraine. This move is set to not only allow Microsoft to sell one whole heck of a lot more phones, but provide a much more lucrative arena for app developers working with their Windows Phone platform.

The next version of Windows Phone, Tango (or should that be Refresh?), is aimed at devices with lower specifications, like the Nokia Lumia 610. There are some limitations on what can run in the background when it comes to multitasking, and the update supports devices running only 256MB of RAM. So far the release of Tango has been pegged for a frustratingly vague “Q2” launch, but ROMs have already been leaked and ported to a number of devices.

The next version of Microsoft's mobile operating system has this week been tipped as Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh. This is in contrast to what we've heard in the past with rumors floating through cyberspace of the code-name being Windows Phone Tango, but does not knock down the idea that Windows Phone Apollo (the update after this) will be Windows Phone version 8.0. This new naming scheme comes from Windows Phone Italy who had the chance to sit down and have a chat with Microsoft's Stefania Duico, who coined the name.

Microsoft's push for low-cost Windows Phones will require some compromises by developers and users, it's been confirmed, with features like automatic image upload and Bing Local Scout getting the chop. Devices running Windows Phone Tango with just 256MB of RAM will lack support for podcast subscriptions and video podcasts, according to the Windows Team, while fast app switching will also be left off the budget-minded handsets.

One of the first devices to be revealed with Windows Phone Tango on it right out of the box is the ZTE Orbit, a device revealed this week in ZTE's torrent of smartphone releases. This device is set for a second quarter release and is just about as basic and low-end specification having device you can find, it being part of Microsoft's initiative to bring more Windows Phone to the whole world, including areas where an inexpensive smartphone is the only sort of smartphone that's a reality for the general population. With ZTE at the helm of one of the first devices in this Tango line, will Microsoft have a winning combination on their hands?
