Super Smash Bros Ultimate almost didn’t include Incineroar

The biggest selling point of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is unquestionably the fact that it features every fighter from previous installments in the series. While that meant a smaller number of new fighters than what we're used to seeing in a new Smash Bros. game, there are still a few characters joining the roster for the first time. One of those is the Pokemon Incineroar, but we're learning today that it almost didn't make the cut.

The Best Games of 2018: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Best Games of 2018: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I’m pretty sure that Masahiro Sakurai is a superhuman who is not of this world. Sakurai, who has been the director of the Super Smash Bros. series from the very start and founded Sora, Ltd. in 2005, is notorious for working long hours, sometimes to the point of injury or illness. You’d think that after four different Super Smash Bros. games (five if we’re counting SSB for 3DS and Wii U as two different titles), Sakurai would want to relax a bit. Instead, he and his team at Sora, Ltd. went along and created the biggest SSB game to date, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC details surface

We already knew some of Nintendo's DLC plans for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but today, more details have surfaced. In addition to the Challenger Packs that director Masahiro Sakurai announced before Ultimate's release, it seems there will also be downloadable outfits for Mii Fighters. That isn't very surprising, considering that Nintendo released Mii outfits as DLC for Smash 4, but now we've got official confirmation from the big N itself.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate review: Greatness within reach

Super Smash Bros Ultimate review: Greatness within reach

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is here and it’s unquestionably the biggest Switch game of the year. While every Smash Bros. release is a major event, there’s a certain excitement for this one, as all fighters that have ever appeared in a Smash Bros. game are returning for Ultimate. Pair that roster, which now includes more than 70 characters, with a map pool that climbs over 100, and we’ve got quite the massive game on our hands. Even though it sounds like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a balancing team’s worst nightmare, it’s definitely exciting for us veterans who have been playing since the first game. It begs the question, though: Can you have too much of a good thing?

Super Smash Bros Ultimate bug turns Isabelle into a broken powerhouse

Even though Super Smash Bros Ultimate is still very new and it's going to take some time to figure out which fighters are strong and which aren't, it seems that series newcomer Isabelle is at least reasonably powerful. With the help of a new glitch, though, Isabelle becomes the strongest fighter in the game by an extreme amount. We probably shouldn't expect this glitch to hang around for very long.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate played and partly won using bananas

ATwerkingYoshi is going bananas. And quite literally too. When Super Smash Bros. U finally launched, it went big immediately, despite the earlier high-profile premature leak. And, as expected, anyone and everyone who could streamed or recorded their experiences and reactions playing what some already call the best-selling Switch game of all time, or at least this year. None, however, would have probably guessed that someone would take seven bananas and use those as a controller, not to mention win some matches, too!.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate first look: Everyone really is here

Super Smash Bros Ultimate first look: Everyone really is here

16 or 17 years ago, my parents bought me a GameCube and a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee for Christmas. In a happy coincidence, Christmas landed at the very beginning of my school’s winter break that year, so I spent two solid weeks doing nothing but playing through Melee, unlocking new fighters, taking on challenges, and expanding my trophy collection. The days of winter breaks and being a carefree teenager are pretty far behind me at this point, but that doesn’t stop me from wishing I had two entirely free weeks to sink into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate anyway.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate leak reveals the ugly side of piracy

Super Smash Bros Ultimate leak reveals the ugly side of piracy

When media talk about privacy, pirates, and piracy groups, they often paint a picture of a united community working towards a common goal to thwart laws and unleash content, sharing tools and links to pirated content among themselves. They often fail to demonstrate how even that community is slightly fractured, split along lines of self-imposed principles and guidelines that not everybody agrees with. Nowhere has that fragmentation become more evident than in the latest and biggest leak to happen since Game of Thrones Season 7. Super Smash Bros Ultimate has leaked barely two weeks before its launch and not all pirates are happy about it.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate overview trailer sets stage for a massive brawl

With a release date of December 7, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is right around the corner.
