Comcast frowns at Sling TV, rejects anti-cable ads

Sling TV was arguably the brightest light in cable-cutters' eyes, at least when it launched earlier this year. The service is an Internet-only online live TV streaming service from Dish Network, and it -- despite some hiccups -- has largely enjoyed success. The service works by breaking content up into packages: there's one core package that costs $20/month, and additional packages priced at $5/month (with a couple exceptions) that aggregates similar channels. The service is everything cable isn't, and now its provoking has earned a reaction.

Sling TV handled Game of Thrones well last night

After the issues that plagued the service during the Final Four, Sling TV customers (and those interested in Sling) were right to be wary. A large event and streaming didn’t mix so well, so the Game of Thrones premiere was bound to bring a lot of attention. After announcing HBO would hit Sling TV, we all wondered just how well the streaming service would fare with another massive streaming effort. As it turns out, not without issues, but overall — Sling TV did really well with the Game of Thrones season 5 debut.

As the Game of Thrones season five premiere nears, viewers are quickly finding ways to watch. HBO NOW, which recently launched via Apple TV, is one way. You could also sign up for HBO via your cable company, if you have cable. Piracy is another (bad) option. Another exists in Sling, which today announce their customers are free to sign up for HBO via Sling TV this weekend, just one day ahead of the Game of Thrones season five debut this Sunday.

Sling TV’s Final Four issues prove troublesome, but promising

Sling TV’s Final Four issues prove troublesome, but promising

Over the weekend, Sling TV slipped up. Badly. As Wisconsin downed the undefeated Wildcats of Kentucky and Duke did what Duke does, Sling TV saw major interruptions. After a massive number of sign-ups — which naturally led to a huge uptick in streaming — Sling TV failed. It was the wrong time to fail, and with the wrong content. A major Sling TV draw is live sports sans-cable, so Sling TV’s issues during the Final Four was troubling, but ultimately tells us all that Sling TV is on the right path.
